A fade is a blend, not a setting. The work is in how cleanly one length travels into the next and how well that blend survives the two weeks after you leave the chair.
Where the blend is decided
Three things decide a fade before any clipper touches your head: how your hair grows, where your head actually changes shape, and how short you are willing to go at the bottom. Those get discussed at the start of the appointment, because they are what makes the difference between a fade that looks sharp and one that looks like a line.
Textured hair and curls are welcome. They fade differently — the blend has to account for shrinkage and for how the curl pattern sits once it dries — and that changes the approach, not the price.
A fade is booked as the standard haircut at $60 for 45 min. There is no separate fade price and no upcharge for a skin finish.
Taper or fade?
The two words get used interchangeably and they are not the same thing. A taper shortens the hair gradually around the perimeter — the sideburns and the nape — and leaves the sides comparatively full. A fade takes the whole side up through several lengths, and how high it travels is what makes it low, mid, or high.
A skin fade takes the shortest point down to the skin itself. It is the sharpest version and the fastest to grow out, which is worth knowing before you book it: most people who run a skin fade come back every two to three weeks to keep it.

Every three to four weeks holds the shape well. There is more length in the blend, so it ages more gracefully than a skin finish.
Taper
Four to six weeks is realistic. The perimeter is doing the work, so the overall shape stays intact for longer.
